I've been assisting a buddy of mine, r&r the 225/904 in a '73 Dart. Everything is back together, but a funny issue has come up.

Turn the key to 'run' and everything powers up. Continue to 'start', and we get nothing (except randomly twice the car cranked?). Jumping across the ignition relay will crank. Replaced the ballast resistor and ignition module, with no affect.

He just called to tell me that there is power at the + side of the coil with the key in 'run', but that the test light goes out as soon as you move the key to 'start'.

I've reached the end of my electrical knowledge, and must turn to you guys for further ideas. Thanks in advance for pointing out my obvious error... haha

Check the neutral safety switch on the side of the transmission and its associated wiring. This device is connected directly to the starter relay. Wiring diagrams available here.

Yes, check shifter linkage or just ground neutral safety wire and see if it cranks/starts.
