Ok, I'm not putting a cam in my slant for now, but since I have to redo the head, I'm definitely going for higher compression.

I'm going to be using TBI fuel injection (not port injected, throttle body), using a Megasquirt 2, distributorless ignition ( EDIS system), no headers, super six intake, and it's a 76 engine. No air ports on the head.

So, how high should I bump this up?

I need it to run on regular gas. It will be used anywhere from 900 ft above sea level to 8000 ft above sea level.

Your input appreciated.

My guess would be no more than 9 to 1.

13.5 to 1 and just run a NOS octane booster

In a car, I would say about 9.0 to 9.2 to 1. In a truck that will be loaded, I would guess about 8.7 to 9.0 to 1. These would be actual measured values. You will probably have to recurve you distributor to go along with this.

Wow that is a lot of difference in sea level. Shoot for 9 to 1 with a steel shim head gasket. Then if you need less compression use a felpro or other composite head gasket.
My02.

PS the Megasquirt II will help a whole lot.

I don't belive any of the local parts places have steel shim gaskets... Where would I find one?

Also, how does the MS help? I know I have to come up with timing curves for this thing, but is there some advantage beyond a carb?

I do not intend to have WOT enrichment...

I have the steel shim gaskets in stock. They are the original Mopar head gasket part number 2843182. If you want any send me a PM.

Is there anything I should know about using steel shim head gaskets? Lifespan, durability, heat, or other issues? I know that they're rarely used today, so, I'm assuming there's some reason for that.

They are not as forgiving as the thicker gaskets, if the head and/or deck are not flat.

Do you retorque with the steel ones Charlie? Or use copper spray?

I'm not pulling the motor, or tearing it down. I am going to work on the head, though, and have it milled. Since I'm going be tough on this motor ( work hard, get hot, etc) I'm wondering if that's wise. I would have no question if I had the option of decking the block to true it up. No, the gasket's not blown now, but I do know that sometimes they aren't all that flat...

What do you think?

You should not have any problem. I am running them on my motors, and the decks have not ever been cut, and untill I installed the milled head on my Valiant, the head was not cut either.
I use Copper spray on the gasket, and I do retorque. The factory manual does not say anything about retorque, but I do it. I also retorque the felpro gaskets.

If your not using headers, you'll either want to open up the bottom and the ports of your manifold and run 2 1/4" exaust or go with dutra duals. Else your leaving alot of performance on the table with this setup...
