Bought a brand New Batt. Without the car running, it tests @ 14.XX volts. When I Driving The Lights are a bit dimmer I am guessing due to the batt having A High Voltage? Anyway when I am driving there is about 10.0 -10.5V to The Megasquirt /Megatune computer when the car is running. Would I be correct in assuming that when this battery "breaks in" The Volt. Reg. Will allow the Alt to charge the battery again when it requires voltage? Hence giving me brighter lights? New Independent (local/reputable) rebuilt alt. New Voltage regulator too Thanks, Greg |

Trickle charge the battery overnight so that it's at full capacity, then see what happens |

Batteries don't need break in, if you have 14.// volts without motor running. I would question the volt meter. You should have somewhat more like 13 volts on the battery with motor running. Richard |

That's bass-ackwards. Quote: Anyway when I am driving there is about 10.0 -10.5V to The Megasquirt /Megatune computer when the car is running.
That's why the lights are dim. Quote: Would I be correct in assuming that when this battery "breaks in" The Volt. Reg. Will allow the Alt to charge the battery again when it requires voltage? Hence giving me brighter lights?
No, it should work fine straight away. You have a charging system problem.

I agree. At rest the battery should be 12.6 to 13.0Richard Batteries are good to go-no break-in required 10 volts will make lights dim-14 volts make lights bright. Charging a battery before use is a very good thing to do. The 10 volts you measure-is that before or after the ballast resistor? It is normal for these cars to be a little dim at idle and brighten up when you give it a little gas. Why did you change all these parts? |

Thanks for all the suggestions every one..To answer one of Josh's Questions _ i have a New alternator 'cause the old one crappeed out a few months ago.. I put a new regulator on with it. Ed's trick worked - - I am not sure why it worked but it did.. I had 11.8- 13.2 volts on megasquirt / megatune on the trip to work this morning, with bright lights! Thank you! Greg |
