A question was asked of me yesterday, Did I ever hear that ATF is detrimental to a poly trans mount? Can any one conferm or dismiss?
I have never heard of that before.

Shouldn't be. I hadn't heard anything of the sort either.

I know tranny fluid will soften some types of rubber but I think poly is OK

What a cool chart. I like that sewage was a #4 and type A transmission fluid was a #1. Diesel oil got a #3 rating. I have some left over poly bushings that I won't be using and used tranny fliud that I am going to soak them in for 30 days and see what happens.

I was playing Mithbusters about ATF and if it destroyed, degraded polyurethane. Using used ATF and having the bushing completely submerged for 32 days the poly is just fine. Just one of those FYI things.

What sort of stress tests did you subject the poly bushing to? Did you do and pre-soak baseline tests to measure the performance of the bushing before submersion so you could accurately compare after submersion performance?

Really just a squish test with a vice before and after to see if it softened.

That most alcohol and stuff in the fuel is negative for poly, is no great surprise, I think that would be a natural assumption.
but,
the Ethylene Glycol rates 4 = severe effect.

That's antifreeze for the radiator, better no spill any coolant!

Detergent Solution also rates 4??

Does that mean I have to wrap my engine mounts to clean the engine? What if they are full of sewage? (don't laugh - my fathers car was parked 2 feet away from a sewage pipe that burst...)

wjajr, Entertaining and disturbing at the same time.
At work a few guys were sitting around a outside lunch table and one had birthday cake from his kids party from a few days before. Now the great minds started to ponder,,,Icing,,,how long will that stuff last?? So he got up and smeered some on the wall........We looked at that stuff for two years everyday,no birds, no bugs, ever touched it.Even rain had almost no effect. Rain did get the best of it after a long,,long time.
