i am brand new to this forum and could use quite a bit of help. here is what i got, and i will try to keep this short. I have a 67 dodge A100 van. it came with 3 motors. 1that is in it and runs, and 2 spares in the cargo area. i plan on stripping the 2 motors and building 1 new one. my first question is what 2bbl carb. goes best with the 225 2bbl intake manifold? Thanks for your time. jp

Your question is a bit like asking what is the best pair of socks. There are far to many variables to say exactly what carb is "best" for your application.

However, given that you are building a truck motor, I would hazard a guess you are looking at improving power and fuel economy. If that is the case, I recommend you look at Aggressive Ted's build in the Engine build matrix thread

You also should also read the Super Six article in the article section of this site.

Personally, I would recommend focusing your attention on camshaft selection, compression calculation, head porting, ignition system, and distributor advance curve before I even considered upgrading to a two barrel carb. A slant in a van will rarely see the high side of 3500 RPM, so a one barrel carb will flow plenty of air to keep your motor happy.

All that considered, the "easiest" carbs to use on a Super Six intake are the factory options- the Holley 2280 and the Carter BBD.

Welcome!

Figure out what performance, mileage, and cost goals are, then read some, then ask some questions.

For the stock Chrysler 2bbl intake, a good NOS (or reputable rebuild) Carter BBD is the carb to get, IMHO.

Reed - I REALLY need to make a run up there and take you for a ride in this unit of mine! Took a guy, that has seen this van for years, for a quick spin out to I5 and ran him up to the next exit and back. Think I scared the crap outta him!! But - he came back swearing "That is the fastest slant 6 he's ever seen!" LOL He told some people that we entered the freeway faster than the traffic and the only way the traffic passed the van was when I let it!!

Scared him a bit when I dropped it into 2nd at 45+mph on the onramp and stomped it - then ran it up past 70 before shifting into drive.

I need to find a tac I can plug into my MSD to see what I am running at

Keep in mind, these vans came with 3.91/3.55/3.23 as available gearing. I've got a 3.55 in mine (originally had a 3.91) I'm glad the previous owner replaced it (playing around/swapping 8 3/4" pumpkins ain't cheap  ), as I do alot of freeway commuting and at 70mph with 255/60-15 tires I'm spinning it close to 3500rpm (I think thats what it is...a month not driving it and I'm forgeting things....) so keep the gearing/tire diameter in mind when figuring what you want out of it.
I know at 60mph I'm right at 3000rpm. And switching from a 1 barrel to a 2 barrel on an otherwise stock slant makes a BIG improvement on these vans. Much improved passing power, very nice when on the interstate, getting around trucks is a snap. I've had it at 80mph or so a quite few times and floored it and it moves out sufficiently....of course I want more so I'm now rebuilding it. Fuel mileage is right at about 15mpg, about the same in my case, as the 1 barrel it replaced. And, we've got a barn door for aerodynamics here so plan accordingly :D
