| Post subject: | Clicking Noise Driving Slowly |
My 1986 Dodge D150 truck makes a clicking noise when coasting, even with the engine off. I have jacked up the car and spun the front wheels and could hear no clicking noise. It makes the noise at low speed. I have an automatic transmission. Could it be the speedometer cable? Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this problem? |

Can be hub caps to. Some times they "walk" around the rim, can even pull out a valve stem! |

Sounds like there is no adhesive on the shim that attaches to the pads. Check to see if there is some, if not, put some on. |

If it was the speedometer cable it would cause the needle to jump in time to the click. |

Both my 83 Dodge van and my brother's 83 Dodge van have a click like you describe from the front right disc brake caliper. Try coasting and applying the brakes- I bet the click goes away. When you put new pads on the calipers, you are supposed to bend the locating tabs so the pad grips tightly to the caliper. I did this on my brother's van and the clunking went away for a few months, but came back. I think the stress of stopping the van slowly stretches the tabs out enough to where the clunking comes back. |

Speedometer does not jump. I will check the shim on the brake pads. Thanks. |

Dry “U†joint cap will sometimes make a clicking sound. |

Are you sure its coming from the front? One time I had a clicking sound and it turned out to be the rear brake. That metal bar/bracket that goes from one shoe to another was tapping the back side of one of the wheel studs and causing a clicking sound when rolling. |

Could be a stone caught in the tire treads. Does it click at the same speed as the tires/wheels? Louder if you are next to a wall? |
