I have a trans on my slant6 from what I believe is a 77-79 1/2 ton 2wd long bed Dodge truck. The parts truck was crushed so no way of confirming. I have a round 3 hole/2 wire, plug that came off the trans on the drivers side. I was told and I checked the part #s and I got that it was a lockup torque converter trans. How do I get this switch to work and/or is there a bypass where I can use it and not hurt it even if I don't hook it up.What or where does it go to and can I rig it to work somehow? Any ideas or links??? I cant find the site that had all the trans serial #s, I guess it shut down.
Im 99% sure because the serial# according to a site ( it was a scanned parts manual) said it was the first year for Lockup torque converters and it was on towing pkgs and some regular trucks. I will post the serial# to see if any of you can help.

Are you sure that is not the neutral safety / backup lite switch?

Nope, wrong type of switch/plug. I will take a pic and post it. Trans # on drivers side is PK405833-6507-5904 the last numbers are 904 but its a 727 because the pan is the 727 pan not a 904.

I don't know what tranny you have, but you can put a manual switch on a lock up converter and switch it on and off manually. The only problem arises when you forget to switch it off and stop the car. It will kill the engine. It is just like not pushing in the clutch on a manual tranny and stopping.

Really! Thanks Sam Powell. I will try this. Hopefully it doesnt shred the tranny. I was thinking the same thing, since it only has 2 wires it has to be just on/off. Have you seen this done before?

You can do that , plus wire a vacume switch inline ( I think they call them Hobbs switchs) and get it to where it will kick in automatically when you want it to, plus ahave a manual overide switch to cut it on and off.


I believe its PATS that has a rightup about how to do this, although I believe they where using it to help control a overdrive when used without the computor. Still should be able to get worked out for a luckup convertor. Heck a simple RPM switch would work also inline with a main switch. You dont want it locking up when under heavy power though, it cant take that I dont believe.

Sure...on a transmission with an electric lock-up torque converter. The one in question has a hydraulically-controlled lockup with no electrical involvement. The connector the OP found is for the combination reverse light/neutral safety switch.
