Ryan and I disassembled his 4 speed OD this evening and I have a question. The spacer tube inside the cluster gear is not solid. It is split end to end. I noticed that on each end of the tube there is a noticeable gap. The center about 4 inches of the tube is tight together. But on each end it is opened up some. Is this normal? Something to worry about. This is just a spacer if I'm not mistaken and can't see how it would have been spread apart in normal operation. Want to start reassembly tomorrow.

Thanks,

Rick

Rick, I cant rembember how mine looked when I had them apart.

Sorry.

But if it's a real concern, Just weld the opened ends toghter and grind / file them down smooth.

Well,

Plans changed and I didn't get to it as quickly as I thought, but I am going to install it as is. I cant see any reason not too.

I already assembled it. I'm sure it will be Ok. It is only a spacer.

But the funny thing (Not really so funny) was that when I packed all the new bearings into my cluster gear, guess what I had left over. 1 bearing!! :? So did I pack all of the bearings in there tight or did I leave one out? Oh man! So I pull them back out and count them all and guess what? They sent me 77 bearings instead of 76! They were all in right the first time. So I put them all back in again, and then I forgot the small spacer/washer that goes between the 2 sets of bearings. So out that end comes again!! Packed it up the third time and we are good to go. Ain't this fun?
