Post subject: | Pan Removal on 65 Dart slant six |
Hi, Does anybody know of a step by step method for removing the oil pan while it's still in the car. Being that I had crud on the rocker arm that plugged the shaft oiler holes, I thought it best to clean out the pan. It looks like the steering linkage and a brace are in the way and I'm not sure the easiest way would be. Thanks for any help or advice. |

Pull the engine. You'll be glad you did. I did the oil pan gasket in my D100 in the truck. It sucked and it has lots more room than an early A-body. If you're relatively motivated you can have the engine out in about 2 hours. If you don't want to pull the engine or oil pan I would use Kreen from Kano Labs to clean the engine. If the engine is already leaking oil and needs to come out for other reasons you're still going to have to pull the engine. |

Easiest way is to just pull the motor and be done. Other than that you will have to unbolt the motor and trans mounts and get the motor as high as you can to get it to clear the crankshaft and K frame. Unbolt everything else that impedes your progress too. ![]() |

Pg 9-19 of the 1965 Dart Shop Manual has the following steps for pan removal of 170/225 engines which I have done 3 times successfully between my 65 & my daughter's 65 Darts: 1)Drain oil pan 2)Remove steering & idler arm ball joints from steering linkage center link. Remove dust shield & motor mount stud nuts 3)Remove horns & brackets after disconnecting negative ground cable from battery. 4)Raise engine 2 inches 5)Remove pan bolts & pan |
