Hello Everyone

can someone tell me if a 225 slant six from a 79 dodge diplomat would transplant into a Clark forklift with a 225 engine? and work with no problems? I know i would for sure change the intake manifold.

it should work...think the clark would of been an industrial slant with a special internal engine parts/ other here will tell you if I am right

What year was the Clark built? If it was 1967 or earlier it should have a smaller centering ring on the back of the crank than the 1968 and later engines. This could mean boring the hole in the flywheel if it's not a standard car/light truck flywheel. If it is a common flywheel you'll need a '68 and later one. Or does the Clark have a drive/flex-plate like an automatic?

Other than the crank/flywheel issue everything from the old engine should bolt right on the '79 engine.

yes this engine has the flex drive plate like a automatic trans. I belive it is a 1967 unit

If the block has 3 core plugs on the manifold side it's an earlier engine and will have the smaller centering ring on the crank if the crank is original to the block.

Does the drive plate carry the starter ring gear?

Yes the bell-housing holds the starter. The Clark block has five freeze plugs on the side. Also the six i want to use has a 2 barrel carb and the Clark use's a one. does that make any difference if I use my intake.

Hi dogman, and welcome to the forum.
The intake and exhaust manifold interchange on all slant six engines. I wouldn't think that you need the little extra power you get from a 2-barrel setup, on a forklift. The 2-barrels appeared on the slants six as a 'super six' setup in '77, and many members would like to convert from a 1-bbl to a 2-bbl, so it should be quite easy for you to sell. Just put a notice in the 'parts for sale' section.

If you decide to reuse the manifold/carb setup from the old engine, there are newer, improved manifold gaskets available that will prevent leaks.

That's a good sign. You should have the larger crank pilot like the '79 engine. I would change manifolds as an intake/exhaust assembly so the existing 1bbl throttle linkage bolts up. The manifolds will bolt right on.
