Post subject:  oil leak, head at block???

getting the slant in the 40 running. have a BAD oil leak where the head meets the block at the very rear of the head on the lower side. i mean running out.
i know it isn't the valve cover gasket as i first suspected. thinking possibly the head isn't down completely over the locating pin, but my compression in #6 is real good.
any ideas on this before i pull the head back off and check out?
thanks,
Chuck

The oil hole from block to head is right at the back behind #6, and warpage or a compromised gasket can cause a leak here. This is very uncommon, AFAIK.

i got up in there with a very thin knife, and was able to actually move the gasket up and down a thousandth or so? probably a burr on the dowl pin, or i got a piece of $#!+ between head and block. god that head is heavy with manifolds on !!!!.

You will be getting low or no oil pressure to the rocker shaft, FYI. Bummer.

BTW, remind me where you're located in Madison? I grew up there and my folks live near Westgate.

I may possibly drive back up there with a Slant car this summer, so we could get together.

craziest thing i have ever seen, the head is perfectly straight, no warpage, BUT from the back of #6 cylinder th the rear of the head, it drops off .009".
that is in approx 1.5 inches it drops that much, and yes that is right where the oil feed hole is. will have to get the head milled or dig out another one and do a.valve job.
