Ok guys, I am nearing the completion of my slant six into a super six conversion. The head is done (some mild porting and new valves) and the 2 bbl intake has been ported to match the head. I have the Holley 2 bbl carb and the super six a/t kickdown linkage. My question is, of all the remaining super-six specific items, which are the most important for me to get? I need the thermostatic choke pulloff coil and the oversized exhaust. I am thinking of keeping the standard exhaust, but will it matter much? Is that choke pulloff coil specific to the 225 super six or can I get one made for the 318cid as long as it had the Holley 2bbl? Anything else I'm missing? Thanks |

You will need the choke for good cold engine starting and running. The exhaust can be up-graded at any time so start with what you have, get it running and "sorted-out"... then go from there. DD |

Ok, thanks. I live in Illinois so I will definately need that cold morning start up ability. Is the choke pulloff specific only to the 225 super six or can I use one that is listed for a 318cid 2bbl Holley? There are a couple on Ebay but none of the sellers can tell me if the choke pulloff will work on a 225 w/ the Holley 2bbl. |

Hi matt68. There are good manifold gaskets available, that will prevent leaks when you mount your supersix manifold. Follow this link for the necessary info. Ther is also a link to electric chokes here. Olaf. |

Thanks for the links. I will be going with the Remflex gasket for my manifold. But, I wanted to stay more "stock" for the carb choke pull off. I am still wondering if I can use one made for the 318 Holley 2bbl or is there one specifically for the 225 Holley 2bbl set-up? |

The difference between 225 and 318 choke linkages for the Carter BBD is one of the problem areas when using a 318 carb. I have a Holley 2280 for a 318, and it is not the same as a 225 Carter BBD with regard to the upper mount for the choke rod. As far as I know the Holleys were meant to be exact replacement carbs. I used the 'search' button at the top of the page, and used 'holley 2280 choke' as search phrase, and it came up with more than 50 hits, many related to the 222/318 problem, and too many to paste in here (I'm a lazy sob!) I'm liking the electric choke for my conversion to a 2 barrel stromberg that I picked up from SSD. Since the carb will run parallel to the axis of the motor, this puts the pull off at the front of the motor, well away from the choke pocket. I'm welding a plate over the choke pocket with a stud sticking up to which I will bolt some flat stock running along the top of the flanges to the area along side of the pull off. I'll mount the elect choke assembly there. May have to modify the brass rod a bit. |

I didn't want to buy one either when I first did my Super Six conversion. After the stock choke thermostat was giving me problems with randomly not closing the choke or leaving the choke on for way too long, I finally sprung for the electric choke thermostat Dan pointed us to. After dialing it in, I now have it pulling my choke off rather quickly since it doesn't get too cold here in the winter. Saves on gas and the annoyance of having my car running on the choke when it's not necessary. It might not look as stock but its one of those things that you set and don't ever have to worry about again.

I might go with the electric choke after I finish the rest of the work. I'm working with a limited budget, so I'm trying to do this the best but cheapest way possible. The head work alone has set me back almost $800.00, and that doesnt include the new springs and valves, so I'm already overbudget. I'm not sure if the head was milled. The guy that is doing my work knows his stuff, so I'm just going with what he suggests. |
