MY 63 dart I purchased back in the fall has a blue engine, my research says it should be red. Here are the numbers stamped into the top of the block just below the No. 1 plug. RW225R 2995 118 Do these tell more than it's a 225? Date? |

Ahh. the casting number indicates a '68-70 225. What do the other stamped numbers mean? |

Interesting ID stamp. If the casting number on the manifold side of the block is 2806830 (with or without additional numbers appended after a dash), then the stamping decodes as follows: RW: Passenger car engine built at Windsor, Ontario 225: Cubic inch displacement R: Regular fuel 2995: Built on October 9, 1969 118: Engine daily serial number If your car's got an automatic transmission, you need to make sure there's a spacer between the torque converter nose and the crankshaft rear flange counterbore. The counterbore and nose grew larger together for the 1968 model year, and if a '68-up engine (w/large crank counterbore) is used in front of a '67-down automatic (w/small-nose torque converter) without the spacer, the trans front pump bushing and seal will die early and often and you can get vibration issues. |
