I did this in my '66 Dart. I pieced everything together which was a pain. You need the pedal assembly, body side mount for the Z-bar and all the clutch linkage. I had to modify the clutch Z-bar mount on the bellhousing side to get it level. I made a hump for the floor. I was able to change just the driveshaft yoke, but you'll need a different driveshaft. You'll have to change your speedometer cable too. It's quite a bit of work. |

If you're going to do this, I recommend finding someone who is selling a mostly complete setup...or at least 90% of what you need. Trying to piece it together will get expensive in a hurry. If you can buy the tranny, pedals, shifter, bellhousing and all the clutch stuff together, you can worry about the driveshaft and floor hump later. Make sure you're handy with a welder too. |

I go about most things by buying one piece at a time so that I am able to work it into your budget slowly instead of one big hit all at once. I'm about to stuff the 4 speed stuff into my Valiant, here's a rundown of what I've paid:
It would be less if I didn't include shipping and if the tranny didn't have a stripped out reverse light switch hole, but that is life, full of surprises. It would have been a lot more if I bought new and rebuilt stuff instead of gambling on used parts. I still need a driveshaft and fluids, so those are coming up next. Depending on the condition of the parts I may have to replace some them because they are still used parts, but most of the stuff looks really good. I recommend trying to shop OFF the internet. Usually by the time something is listed on the 'net its been checked out for value. |

Thanks guys. I am just weighing my options. A manual is a lot of fun to me and I don't see it being any more expensive than having my 904 built and a good converter. |

Spotted a 71 demon with slant six and 3-speed floor shift? Good parts for my project? |

Not really. You need the pedal assembly and shifter hump out of your generation of car, not sure what that range is. I'm not sure about the Z-bar for your generation either, but I'd assume a slant six three speed one would work. The OD tranny was made for F-bodies and the last two years of A-body production, not sure when they stopped making the short tail OD tranny. You can use any slant six four speed bellhousing, the OD ones would be the easiest to use (and find probably) but you always turn down the input bearing retainer to fit the earlier bellhousing. Shifters are shifters generally, you might get one with the tranny, if not they are fairly plentiful. The driveshaft yoke is the same as the 727s, so the junkyards are full of them. Hope this helps! |

I have 5 of these guys...2-1975 Cast Iron OD Trannie-A-727 yoke 1-1981 Dodge Truck Long tailshaft-A-727 yoke 1-1976 A-833-OD came in my Feather Duster (3/30/76 build date)-A-904 yoke 1-1978 Volare A-833OD-A904 Yoke Same thing happens to the A-230 3 speeds, the early ones are definately A-904 yoke...but some of the later (1975+) that have been seen with the A-727 yoke... FYI, easier to get the driveshaft and yoke that came with the car, just to be safe... I know the floor hump from a 1973-1976 car can be fitted to a 1965-1966 Dart without much fuss. -D.Idiot |

I am doing a similar swap in my 63 Dart. Only it is a slant 3 on the tree. Do you need a set of pedals? I have a nice set for an Early car. Pm me if you're interested. |
