Post subject: | Painting engine parts |
I have my slant taken apart to the point that I'd like to paint it and clean up the engine bay. I've never had good luck painting the aluminum water pumps. Right now the engine has paint on it that is mostly tight except for the WP which is flaking off in a big way. I've also read some threads here about engine paint vs body paint and would like some input on if there really is much difference. Thanks Howard |

I just use clear coat engine rattle spray, it seems to hold, and nobody notices that anything is peeling off, since the part looks "natural".-D.Idiot |

Aluminum may require a special primer on an engine application, or at minimum special care to remove oils, and oxide before painting. Also self etching primer may be helpful, that stuff tends to cling to just about anything with tenacity… Most new car aluminum engines & their accessories are not painted, and soon oxidize. This drives me nuts personally, to have spent way too much for a new vehicle, only to have all the aluminum parts under the hood to turn white in a few years. |
