Hi there fellow slant sixers!

I'm new to the forum. Lots of great stuff on here. I'm new to working on these engines. The one Dart I drove during college in the 80's never needed anything.

I just picked up a 66 Barracuda with an '85 truck Slant six and 727 combo. Im in the process of getting the car running since the transplant wasn't completed by the previous owner. I thought since I needed a new carb that while I was at it I would do the Super Six conversion. This has been slightly challenging because of lack of parts.

I just picked up a carb from ebay that was sold as a Super Six carb but I'm starting to wonder if it is actually the Super Six carb. The Idle set screw doesn't seem to have a stop and it looks to be located away from the choke cold idle screw and further forward than the other pics I have found. Can anyone help me identify this carb I have?

Also I am looking for the correct linkage as well for the kickdown and throttle cable hold down.

Tough to tell from that angle, but something does look a little off. Any more pics?
Does look like a Carter BBD would could be correct, but the 318 version looks pretty similar with only a few minor physical differences.

Also, I think I have a kickdown linkage and throttle cable bracket for the super six setup in my garage, but will have to double check.

That would be great if you have the linkage, brackets, and cable. I will put up a couple more pics tonight that shows beter the idle screw without stop .

Yeah its a Carter BBD for sure. I can't quite tell whats going on with the curb idle screw. It should be right next to the fast idle screw. There should be a hole right next to the fast idle screw. If there is, remove your idle screw from wherever it is right now and put it back in that hole.

It's a brand new 1979 Holley 2280, slant 6 specific, replacement carb. I wasted time and money going through two used carbs before putting one of these on my car. Now it runs great. Good luck.

Carb shown in photo is incomplete. That placement of the idle screw tells us there's supposed to be an idle stop solenoid. It and its bracket are AWOL. This may be a carb intended for use with the Lean Burn system, in which case you don't want it. We can't tell if it's a \6 or a V8 carb (originally) without seeing an overhead-looking-down view. Recommendation for new 2280 is a good one.

Here is a pic from the rear. It shows the set screw for warm idle hanging out in the air. Although I should be able to drill and tap a second hole just adjacent, left, of the cold idle screw and have the warm idle screw in what I gathering the traditional location that some of the other BBD carbs have. Not sure about the different ports. Which one is for vaccum advance? Are some for EGR?

This is a bottom view of the carb. Again, I'm not really sure what all Im supposed to see or not see. Im not sure if this is truely a super six carb. Hopefully it will work well as a super six carb once I have the linkage I need.

Here is the passengers side. Again not really sure what to look for....any red flags that make this carb unusable as a super six carb, ie, the choke linkage.

I was hoping to go with a Carter BBD because typically I read of better gas mileage than with the Holley. But if I can't find a good Carter I may be forced to go with a Holley.

I cannot imagine why you would get better mileage with the BBD than with the 2280. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download.
