Hello every one, I just purchased a 8 1/4" Rear end, this one the guy said s that came out from a A body, it has the big bolt patern, so it be perfect for my car.

The question I have today is ,,,is my existing drive shaft going to fit into that rear end, or I do have to modify it, cut or enlarge?, or any other changes I have to consider before I take my old 71/4" rear end out?

Remember... my car is a Dodge Dart 1965, with a 225 slant six and a automatic trans, engine and trans are stock.

Your driveshaft will need to be shortened as the rear U-joint of the 8 1/4 is farther forward than with the 7 1/4. According to this chart it's 1.60" farther forward.

I have a driveshaft here from a 73 Valiant. It went from a slant 6 and 727 tranny to an 8 1/4" rear. Not sure if it's the same length as a 904 to 8 1/4" driveshaft. Maybe someone will chime in and let us know. If it is you can come pick it up for cheap. It just doesn't have the slip yoke because I need it for my 4 speed conversion.

727s are longer than 904s. Doesn't matter in this case though because he doesn't have a slip-yoke output transmission.

Acording to the link that I got from Joshua Skinner I'll be modifiing my original drive shaft, I'll take it to a profesional shop to do the job do, I dont want my drive shaft falling on teh hig way.

thanks every one, I just went to pick up the rear end,,it looks real clean,,no greasse at all or dirt,,I just need to take it apart , replace the seals at the ends..and so on..do some celanning and paninthing before I install it into my Baby 65 Dart.

The transmission is the original one, the old previus owner lady did rebuilt the trainny before I got the car (I'm lucky).

mis Amigos, I have a Rear End Gera size question..

I opened the rear end to see the numbers that are stamped in the Ring gear, and this is what I have, hope some one can tellme what type of ratio I have: 2852923 245 7 21 75 2
I need to know what I have, it is a 8 1/4 rear end that I purchased few months ago.

2.45 is the gear ratio, those are pretty common.

What is the gear tooth counts?
Divide the number of ring gear teeth by the number of pinion teeth.
54 / 22 = 2.45

2.45 gears were common with V8s. They are not very fun with a slant. I hope your car is an automatic.
