I have an exhaust leak, and pulled the maifolds off, but there is a broken stud, of course the one by the firewall. There is nothing to grab , been soaking with penetrating oil , for a while. Is there a way to drill it out if need be, or some other trick. What kind of drill bit would I use. I would hate to pull the head , but will if necessary, thanks in advance , Jim.

Don't worry too hard about preserving the ability to use a stock-size stud; focus on drilling out the broken stud hole straight and true, then put in a step-size stud if necessary. See here. Do not be tempted to use an "Easy Out"; it will almost certainly break and then you will be in much deeper doodoo than you presently are. It is very much worth your while to get the good gaskets for the manifolds-to-head and intake-to-exhaust junctions.
