Factory 727 converters came it two sizes, a 10 3/4 and a 11 3/4 diameter. The general terms used for these are "low stall" (11 3/4) and high stall (10 3/4) Basically, the 10 3/4 is the 904 converter, built with HD parts and the hub, splines and ring gear needed to be used in a 727. If the measurement across the converter shell is close to 11 inches, it is likey a "10 inch" (10 3/4) Mopar converter shell. (high stall version) There is about a 500 RPM difference (with a V8 ) between the two sizes. DD |

No, this is behind a slant and it raises another question. I have an engine I am building for my street/strip 63 Dart. I have the Pushbutton 904 that's in the dart. It was rebuilt before I got it and performs well. Which tranny should I use? I am going to need a high stall speed converter, should I stay with the 904 as is, or use the 727? Can i just buy a V8 type converter for either and just get it 500-1000 rpm higher than I want it to stall behind the 6? |

If you like the PB 904 then use it. You'll need a custom torque converter to accommodate the small input shaft and the large crank pocket, but that's not a big deal. Swapping in the 727 will require a different shifter and driveshaft. It's also heavier and requires more power to operate making the car slower. |
