So I've recently acquired my first slant6, a 1987 dodge ram d100 custom, 114k miles for a mere $600.00. I love the thing. Though I have a problem.

After rebuilding the one barrel holley carb twice, I finally sent it to a shop. The carburetor is no good. So, instead of spending half what I paid for the truck for a new one, my boyfriend has a stock 2 barrel carb from his 87 w250 with the 318. I know for a few years they made the "Super Six" with a two barrel carb, is there a company that makes an adaptor plate for a one barrel to a two barrel? I've looked on a few different sites and all I seem to be able to find is two barrel to four. Help?

Such adapters exist, but are not a good idea. Take a look at the volume of the throttle bores on the two barrel carb. Now take a look at the opening in the one barrel intake. There is a marked difference in size and the intake opening will act as a choke point.

If you want to upgrade to a two barrel carburetor, your best bet is to do it right with a correct two barrel manifold or modifying your one barrel manifold to accept a two barrel carb.

Easier, and probably better in the long run, is to switch to an older style Holley 1920 carburetor and switch the ignition system to HEI. Your 1987 truck was the last year for carbureted vehicles from Dodge and has a computer controlled carburetion and ignition system. Switching to standard a carburetor and non-computer controlled electronic ignition system is simple and will improve fuel economy and performance. Search this website for remove lean burn and convert lean burn and HEI and you will find all the info you need.

Welcome and god luck!

Hi MissMopar, and welcome to the forum!
There is an article om the subject of the very popular 'Super Six' conversion, take a look at this article. At the beginning of each section in the forum, you'll find a FAQ (frequently asked questions). Those FAQs contain most of the info you'll ever need to take care of your nice Dodge. All text colored red, are links you can click on to follow. We also have an excellent search function, that will bring you all the info needed. I think you will find a lot of info on the subject by browsing backwords a couple of pages in the threads in the 'engine' section, there have been lots of posts about it recently, but the FAQ is always a good place to start.

Olaf.

Not to get too particular, but I had a 1989 Chrysler 5th Avenue that was carbureted.
