I couldn't find any info on how to check valve to piston clearance so I did my own. Filled the remaining space in 2 cylinders after hitting the top with clay, snugged the head with push rods, turned crank enough times to see the valves move, checked clay. That should be it right  (thanks(again)

Yup, that works. Make sure you do it with the same type of head gasket you will be using in the final assembly. |
