I've searched through the various threads mentioning driveshafts and have seen people using driveshafts out of various other vehicles. I know there are two different sizes of U-joints and that the 727 and 904 can use the same output shaft. Perhaps other GM and Ford vehicles use the same or similar output shaft that would fit into the 904? I will be needing a driveshaft for GodsRods Duster II to mate the 904 to the Ford 8". That will need some measuring and cutting anyway, so I'm thinking that if I go to a local salvage yard and find a newer vehicle with a later style aluminum shaft in a length long enough... Am I way off base here? Is it not worth the extra time and aggravation? Should I just go down to a local shop and say, "Make me one of these here about yay long with ends like this here."? Thanks! |

Aerostars used aluminum shafts. You could adapt a 904 yoke to it with an adapter Ujoint. Im not sure on shortening alum shafts. I was going to do this on the Valaint till I discovered I could just use my stock driveshaft......... |

Rob, 727 and 904 do not use the same yoke. 727 is a lot bigger. Nothing I have found in GM or Ford will swap. I used to have a list of all the adapter u-joint numbers, but it disappeared in my last 'pooter crash. I have a bunch of different length driveshafts down at the shop. I may have one that will work if you can give me a measurment.

Thanks Dennis! Once I pick it up I'll measure it. I can pick up the driveshaft when I drop off the Street Duster at your place...

It was good talkin' to ya last night Dennis. How was the Chinese food? We liked the pizza,... but it didn't like us!  I think I gots me some parts swappin' to do! GodsRods Duster II and the Dart will get them some goodies... Then I gots another Road Trip to do (North this time! ) Hey Wayne and John!! Are ya listenin' to this??

Chinese was good. Caroline and I rode down to the shop today to pick up the other Ninja. We stopped at Coyote Canyon (think redneck Old Country Buffet) and it was not so good either. Lemme know when you're on the way.

what u joint is your car using,I cant remember but The ranger shaft I used was the same as my stock drive shaft |

I haven't measured anything yet Nick. If I swap the 8 3/4 from the Street Duster to GodsRods Duster II I have a good driveshaft for it. Although, based on Dennis' comment above, I may need to change out the front yoke. I believe Ben was running a 727 behind the 340 he had in it. We'll be talkin' some more Dennis. One Road Trip at a time...

Yoke will be different, and driveshaft will be 4" too short. 904 has a shorter tail than a 727 too. I have one laying around the shop for a 904/8.75 that I had shortened just a little too much. |

Beggar's. There's one right by my house too John. Unfortunately there is not one by my shop. There is a Monical's though.

Beggars is alright; never really cared for Monicals; (there are like 4 of them nearby) I tend to like Aurelios, who has several locations; Beecher, Homewood (the original) and (IDK if this one is still there) Frankfort, seemed to be the better choices of the bunch because of the brick ovens; the pizza comes out less greasy somehow vs a newer steel wall oven..... Unfortunately there is not one by my shop. There is a Monical's though. I have yet to try Giordano's though.... I think the closest one is Plainfield. there is a place in Glenwood that is real good too; Sanfrantellos I think is the name? |
