I used to hear and read about the 300 HP slant six ect ect but what is the max you can safely get out of a slant with any combination of boost/compression or nos with money not being an issue of course. |

'Maximum' and 'safely' are at odds with each other here. How long do you want this thing to live generally and how long of at maximum power? |

I've heard of 300 HP on race gas... then again, race gas usually means durability took the back seat. |

300hp all motor would take some work but with a power adder i dont' see that being hard to reach and still live reasonably the nos route would leave you with a normal driving car that would last along time then put a hit of spray and could be a quick car depending on what you want, or even the turbo route could last along time tuned carefully and built to be able to handle the boost nicely. My all motor engine ran fine as my daily driver and pulled mid 9 sec passes in the 1/8 all day it probably is low 200hp just guessing by other cars times and after i put the 100shot on it i'm sure it made 300hp and still did fine with the bottle on then drove nice and normal with the bottle off. Hi Frutsy. This question gets asked alot so you could use the Search function at the top of the screen to find some answers, but first I think you should read stuff that is in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Engine at the top of the engine page. And it might also be helpful for you to read some of these articles as some focus on what your asking for. http://www.slantsix.org/articles/articles.htm Search for "super six". |

If you have plenty of funds, then I would recommend a turbo or centrifugal supercharger. 300HP should be no problem on 7-9 psi boost, and that will be very durable if you have a good tune of mixture and ignition timing. I would recommend multi-point EFI for tunability and to have a "dry" manifold so fuel puddling is not an issue. My '68 Dart is about to get fired up with a turbo on 6 psi, no intercooler, and multi-point EFI. I am thinking it should make about 300 HP on 6psi, then I will probably turn it up to 12 psi once I am comfortable with tuning. Centrifugal supercharger will be easier to set up than a turbo, and is probably easier to tune (especially with a carb, if you decide to stay with that). Nitrous is easiest and cheapest to install, but you have to keep filling the bottle. NA can be done, but it will require higher RPMs and very good cylinder head flow (call Mike Jeffrey). Happy building, Lou |
