Post subject:  Help me get a lil more power

I am overhauling the /6 in my 64 W100. I'd like to do a little to bump up the power. Nothing fancy, I figured a cam or such. Any advice?
Anyone used this set up:
Comp K cam kit 252S K642404

It's a good cam. DusterIdiot ran one for quite a while. Seemed to work well for him. It's a good mild street alternative cam.

Take a look in the FAQ, check the Erson Cam group buy in there, and start going through the builds and other threads and links. Hopefully you'll find what your looking for.

To start:
Increase compression, free up the exhaust, and make sure it's in a good state of tune.

X2 .... I didnt find the 252 I ran to be much over a stock cam. My feeling is spend your money increasing the compression and flowing more air through the head.

The cam works well on street and has a very fat torque band, where you get the gains on it is increasing the compression to something in the 9.2:1 range...and making sure you do some clean up work in the head ports, then treating it to a 2 1/4" exhaust pipe...if you have low ratio gears for that W (like 3.55-3.91) it should work great.

The cam has an incredibly short overlap event, so when coupled with a long runner intake it would pack the cylinders and make the engine even more "fun".

I think cam money would be better spent after a compression increase......and then the Comp 252 is kinda lame and possibly prone to ping.

Nothing beats using a DCR calculator to work it all out.

Electronic ignition /recurve distributor
2.25" exhaust/Super 6 intake
Gears + convertor
compression increase/cam upgrade
headwork
4 barrel/ headers

in that order

I'm running a Comp Cams 252. It's definitely not very aggressive. So, if you're looking for just a nice stock replacement it's a good cam. In the future, I'd probably go with something more radical. I do have Clifford shorties installed and have a Carter 2-BBL with ported and polished head, so I'm thinking a more aggressive cam and MAYBE a slightly bigger carb would complement everything else I've done nicely. Also, from a purely aesthetic standpoint, I'd like the sound of a more rumpity idle.
