has anyone done this. small primarys/large secondarys..vacumn secondarys?? I just removed the stock intake/exhaust from the slant six motos head we found in school yard refer to older post http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43453 and theres room on the intake to cut/weld a BOX that would take my old 440 thermoquad, but it has manuel secondarys that would drown the six..any thoughts ..the primarys are small. |

I thought the secondaries on all thermoquads were a vac operated air door. The secondary butterflies open mechanically, but the air door above them can be adjusted with a spring to set when they open. Someone posted that they did this several years ago. Might've been a 318 thermoquad. Did you try search function? Lou |

Some guy made a huge thread about the motor he built and then put a Thermoburn on. Lots of pics, but he disappeared when it was time to post up any information about how it ran.

The guy had something to do with Demonsizzler, the Thermo king. Even though I hate Thermos with a passion, I really was interested in seeing if one could/would work on a Slant. I went through the trouble of making one work on a 340 once. I'd rather drive nails through my forehead than do that again. |

Here is what I think can happen. Go small! the 440 model has larger primaries than MOST small block ones. 800cfm VS 850. An mission era 318 model might be a good start. .92 jets VS .98 jets in many of the biggies. The secondary side is controlled by a spring loaded air door. That door properly adjusted will adjust the CFM of the carb. It will only flow what the engine demands from it. This may be accomplished by limiting the angle of the airvalves with the spring adjustment, or using a stop in there to limit the travel. The spray bars in the secondaries are probably too rich for the slant. Probably need to solder or plug them and redrill them to a smaller size. |

I ran one on the Valiant back when I was younger. It was NA with a cam and header. It worked good and the secondaries would come in about 4000 rpm and I shifted at 5000. 1 3/8 primary with an adaptor to a clifford. I have some thermoquads left on my e-bay store if interested...I have a few more to list also. http://stores.ebay.com/TAS-Performance At one point every vehicle I owned had a thermoquad on it. I like them. Later Ryan |
