Post subject:  Carburetion setup????

I have a 1934 Plymouth Coupe street rod w/a 225 slant six. I only drive it to shows (Midwest) from April to October and store it in the winter. I am interested in changing the carburetion from a single down draught to a two or three carbs set-up. Because of the limited space under a 34 hood I will have to go to a side draught configuration (The master cylinder is in the way). Does any body have any suggestions as to whether this is a dependable or reasonable setup and will have to change the cam? What things to look out for? I prefer to go with a dual carb side draught but cannot find an intake. Will I have to have an intake custom made? :?:

A dual sidedraught intake manifold is available from Lynx, see here. It accepts two SU HS6 or HIF6 carbs (readily available, widely used on Volvos) or Japanese-made Hitachi versions of same as found on Datsun Z-cars, or Zenith-Stromberg 175CD2 units if you're a masochist. Careful synchronisation is needed, but this type of carb lends itself very well to multiple-carb installation; that's how they were used in most cases from the factory. A hot cam will not be needed, but thermal management will be; wrap your exhaust manifold (see here for an extreme example) or get Dutra Duals and wrap those. Or if wrapping doesn't fit with your visual scheme, look at having them ceramic-coated to reduce exposure of the carbs to heat.

Thanks a ton. I'm new at this. This is the first slant six I've ever owned. At first I was going to replace it w/a baby hemi but the S 6 got so much attention at the shows and Cruises I went to I decided to keep it, dress it up and give it a little more hp+attitude. I am assuming that split shorty ceramic coated headers would be acceptable.
