What are some choices for big valves in the slant head without needing to notch anything? The head will be mildly ported (pockets, etc)? Some have told me to use stock 318 valves. Make sense (same shaft size)? Other choices? Thanks!

On my last performance build I used SB Ford valves - about 1.75" & 1.48" if I remember right. The guides were shot so I had 11/32" (conversion) guides put in. Worked well on my 225 with .060" overbore.

Installing larger valves is best matched with some chamber work and bowl work.

If you dont want to do this work I suggest just installing the Engnbldr valves. Then you can say you have Big Valves.

When you take the head to the machine shop ask for a Bowl Hog. My machine shop wasn t sure about this until I convinced them to do a Chev Hog to go with my Chev valves (1.72/1.50). They seemed comfortable with that.

I opened up the chamber around the valves using some information from the Victory Library. We used an ancient Victoria vertical mill.

If you can ,,,,,get your fingers in a Jefferies head.....just to get a feel for what you are after.
