Hi sorry this will be a long one I'll try to describe exactly what I did etc so I can fix the problem I have :/ Thanks!

I have a 1967 VC Valiant with 225 engine

I noticed I had a small oil leak (few drops), so I had a look and found I needed a new rocker cover gasket. I replaced this, did it all up quite tight. In this process I had to disconnect pcv and vaccum tube for dizzy.
I also had to disconnect #6 plug at some point to tighten that bolt etc.
I also had to reconnect a wire that's attatched to the coil (my crimping turns out it wasn't so good) so I fixed that up.

Tried to start the car ran for a second real rough then died nearly instantly. did this a few times.

I noticed a little more oil possibly on the ground in suspect spots. such as under the drive side floro area. Couldn't see where it came from.
Black stuff was over the floor area of my garage where the headders end.

To try remedy this I went back cleaned pcv valve, checked all nuts on cover and loosened a little (just in case I guess) checked all plugs wires I touched etc), adjusted the curb idle screw out.

Tried again, had my foot on the accelerator a little and bam car started, not very well. ran very rough sounded horrible.

Could this be because I need a valve lash adjustment?
Carb problems?
It interestes me to suddenly know why all this black stuff is suddenly spitting out the exhaust/

I'll be giving the valve lash adjustment a go later today, and will vaccum out the cylinders. and put some carb cleaner down the carb and check for vaccum leaks. Any help would be appreciated.

(1) definitely check the valve lash

(2) make sure the wires to the coil aren't pinched under the valve cover or otherwise grounding out

(3) did it run good before you "fixed" it?

Sounds like a vacuum leak or coil related to your crimping. did you knock any hoses off the carb or air cleaner?

Hey, Yeah the car ran well. I will do a valve lash and check for vac leaks but I don't think that's it.

I think it was the way the wires were crimped that went onto the coil as the car started again properly once i 'fixed' this one haha

Car runs well now but I'm about to swap it to a new manifold and 350 holley anyway so I'm not to fussed that it runs rough (will check the ilde adjustment etc)

Thanks!
