If you mean factory numbers, the 1960-71 factory standard 225's made 145HP (according to Allpar). They say that the '74's made 115HP. ________ ass Webcams |

Welcome to the board! Congratulations on your purchase! I assume you are asking how far you can go with the Slant. The slant six can go anywhere from bone stock (about 145 hp) to well over 300 hp. All kinds of mods have been done. There are several 4-BBL manifolds, as well as supercharger kits, that are available. Speed costs! You have to decide what you want to do with the car (daily driver, street & strip, or strip only) first... then you can begin to plan a path. Planning carefully will save you loads of frustration and cash. Folks on this board have done it all. Take some time to search around, listen to their stories, and dream a bit. Then make your plan and go for it. In the meantime, we'll help you get it in good running condition and offer a few "cheap tricks" to wake it up a little. - Mac '68 Dart, 225 |

Bang for buck is shave .100 off the head performance gain will be noticable. Louder buy a flowmaster or put headers/intake on it, or hack your exhaust pipe off and let it eat. If you want to dive into the motor theirs plenty of stuff to do for improvement Kev |

There was a 225 with turbo and EFI at Chryslers on the Murray (Australia's largest Mopar show) that made over 420 hp at the wheels. Idle was as smooth as stock. Cameron Tilley's makes ????? How much do you want? |

I think for speed based on what I've paid you can get noticable gain if you Shave head (as said above) New headders with 2.25" exhaust (sounds good) two bbl or 4 bbl carb All this can be done for under $1000, if your unsure what to do the experts on this site will be sure to help you out. This is what I've been able to pay by using things like ebay. Headders $100 holley 350 carb - $50 rebuild pack $50 air cleaner $20 kickdown cable $20 two bbl intake manifold $ 50 exhaust brand new $300 Head shaved (should be cheapish maybe around 100, depends what else you get done). Hope this helps. |

If I were you if i took the head off to have it shaved i'd put the those ebay oversized valves in it and do some bowl blending and port work if you not comfortable with that stuff the head shave alone will help ya out as far as ecnomy and power goes. Theres members on the site that make more than 420hp at the wheels as far as max hp goes the skys the limit with enough money and enough knowledge of how to squeeze that power out of the slant. Kev |

Head shaving is excellent... the compression of the stock slant six is pretty anemic. But beware, if your slant is old and tired shaving the head may make for lots of smoke. You haven't told us anything about the vehicle & engine... how many miles on the Dart, how well does the engine run now, etc. - Mac |

A bit more power and a bit louder - here's what I did and I love the sound and power. 2-bbl from a 318 Head shaved a bit, port and polish Clifford shorties with 2" dual with an X-pipe Smithys glasspacks Comp Cams 252 (I'd go more aggressive if I did it over) I had a stock exhaust manifold with a 2 1/4" single exhaust and am quite happy with the headers and duals for the improvement to sound and it feels more peppy (at least according to my butt dyno) |
