Time to get out the "long board" sanding block, pull the dowel pins and give the top of the block a nice flat sanding.
You will see every high, low, ding and dent, once you do that.

I'm getting ready to swap out Fel-Pro head gasket for stock Chrysler steel head gasket I got from Frank to grab a little more compression. What if any treatment does that steel gasket need before it is installed? Bill |

The most important thing needed for reliable sealing of a shim type head gasket... smooth, flat, freshly machined block and head surfaces. DD |

Doc, How fresh is fresh? Had the head machined about 6000 miles or two years ago. I don't expect any goofy conditions lurking, no over heating, no hard charging, since reassembly. Bill |

Couldn't say when top of block last visited a machine shop. I can easily brighten it up with Scotch Brite pad. The last time the head was off, the top of block was nice and clean.
