| Post subject: | differential question |
hello i have a volare 78 super six, my differential is a 7.25 and is in really bad shape i want to fix it and I'm looking for the parts online because here in Mexico City where i live, it's very hard to find brand new parts for this differential, but looking online I'm finding that there was a 9 bolt 7.25 diff and a 10 bolt diff, i have a 9 bolt differential so my question is can i use at least some of the parts from the 10 bolt differential?(mine is a 9 bolt) because according to http://www.ringpinion.com/DiffDetails.a ... f&TypeID=2 they aren't compatible but I'm not sure if all the parts aren't compatible or only some of them. I'm particularly interested in the ring and pinion By the way I'm not going to do the repair myself I'm going to send it to a mechanic but last time i had problems with the differential and have it rebuilt was only like 7 years ago (and only like 30,000 miles) before that the differential was the original, so it was like (25 years old and many many miles) so i want to get the best parts possible and if they can be brand new that would be great but i can only find the 10 bolt 7.25 parts so please help a newbie thanks in advance |

Well, looking at Randy's website, it seems like the 10 bolt ring & pinion SHOULD be compatible with your axle. I do know some where along the line Chrysler screwed up the 7.25 axle by changing to a (cheaper) C-clip design. so the R & P gears (maybe diff bearings) are the only parts that carry over. |
