I like the idea of converting to LED. Should live a lot longer, you will be able to get singles and strips that are located in an appropriate location to illuminate the areas you want?

Can they be dimmed? In very dark driving conditions, being able to dim the instrument panel will assist you in seeing the road, and denizens thereof more effectively. If they are full bright all the time, that could be a problem.

I wasn't aware of LED systems that could be dimmed. If the car is used in town with street lights all over the place, then it wouldn't be as much of an issue. I had my dash pretty close to minimum light level a couple times on the trip down to MATS. Had to stomp the whoa peddle a few times for deer. Eight ran across in front of me in a long line just before the Oregon border a couple nights ago. Keeping light levels down in the cabin allowed me to see the camo-critters. Came to a stop about 20 feet from where they pranced across. Linda woke from a sound sleep!

So, I got my gauges and lights working, and now I'm looking at custom lighting for the gauges. Yea or Nay? I wanted to take apart the panel and install LED strips probably 3 of them, for the gauge lighting. I would run the wires out of the back of the panel through the hole where the EGR warning bulb was that the previous owner was kind enough to cut out into a square (didn't understand his reasoning). I would run the wires into the main harness and then have them activated by the headlight switch. CJ Ok, I figured out a system to fix all of these problems, first i got a dimmer controller made specifically for LEDs with an on off switch and brightness up and down, next I'm leaving the regular bulbs in so in super dark conditions if need be I can turn off the LEDs and switch to "candle" power, I'll let you guys know how it turns out

You might be curious to read what Roger did to his car... http://earlycuda.org/tech/DashLights.htm If done this way, the lights will NOT dim very much using the original Chrysler rheostat.
