As many know, the Hooptie has many uses. Fogging mosquitos at launch being one of them.

It still isn't "Fixed" but I did something about it at MATS. The big puff of smoke was making me cranky, so I pulled the breather before the second pass, and duct taped the grommet on the valve cover. Somewhere around 90 mph at the top end of the track, the vacuum went through the roof as I lifted. The PCV was still hooked up. This pulled a hard vacuum on the bottom end. The only leak would be the dipstick tube.

I went ahead and put the breather back to normal when I returned to the pit. Saturday they shot another photo of my launch, and the smoke level was radically lower. Maybe my rings are finally seated! The car smokes a whole lot less now. I can still get ring flutter on the high end if I partial throttle after lifting around 90 or so. (4800 rpm in third)

While forcing the rings to seal with high vacuum works, it also can be a bit risky using this much depression. The seals can be damaged, so take this with a grain of salt. It may not be healthy for the engine. It looks like I got away with it!

Fun. What kind of rings?

How does this manifest?

Still on the Metric Gapless rings. Yep. As previously stated, never again.

The thin metric rings unload in the bore due to the long stroke. The "Flutter" allows the rings to pass oil. Basically, there isn't much ring pressure without a differential pressure across them to hold them tensioned to the bore at that point.

I get intermittent puffs of smoke at high speeds under partial throttle. At WOT, there is little smoke.
