| Post subject: | 14 inch tires on 64 dart |
my 64 dart gt 6 cyl. came with the incorrect rims. they are 14 inch instead of 13 inch. currently running 195 /14 all around. braking seems ok. my question is will a 205 /14 fit in the rear. I think the rims are the standard 14x6.5 inches. and there is no wheel well modifications. so can i run a 205 /14? or what is the largest size that will fit and not rub against the body work.leaf springs are original and weak. I know somebody has gone thru this problem. i just dont want buy new tires and have them rub thanx in advance |

They're probably 14 x 4.5 or 14 x 5.5 The biggest tire on the 14 x 4.5 would be a 185 75 14 For the 14 x 5.5 you can use either 195 70 14 or 205 70 14 The 185 75 and 195 70 are the same diameter as the stock 6.50 13 tires. The 205 70 is slightly larger diameter and will tend to correct the usually speedo problem of the speedometer reading high. I'm using 195 70 14s on 14 x 5.5 steelies. (see sig pic) All will fit fine if they're stock rims. |

I just got the spare wheel out and took tire off it is a 14x4.5 inch stock wheel. are you sure the biggest tire i can run is a 185/14? the tire on there was a 195/14. but it seemed to be a little overly rounded when inflated. so somebody in the past put to big of a tire on the4.5 inch rim and it seated ok but was going to wear in an odd way. so would a 205 /70 14 be worse if i mounted on a 14x4.5 rim ? |

I have ran 215/70 on those 14" rims without any problems. No rubbing problems either. |

Goto tirerack and see the specs. They give you a range of rim widths that are acceptable for each tire size. A 195 is really too wide for a 4.5" rim. |

when measuring rim width is it from outer edge to outer edge? or the measurement were the tire bead would seat to other bead seat area? thanx |

It's bead to bead. A very close approximation is outer edge to outer edge minus 1" |

You can run a 235/60/14 on a 7" rim.......245 on the rear. |

I am running 195s on the 4.5-inch rims in the rear on my car just because I couldn't find any 5.5's in the small bolt pattern and I did not want to get new tires when I finally get around to changing out the rear end. Yes they are too wide as specced, but it won't hurt anything to run them on a slightly narrower rim. They might wear funny over time but not enough to worry about... |

Yep. I'm running 235/60-15s with a 7 inch rim on a BBP disk brake Demon. It's real snug at the fender. I tapped the lip up a little. The tire stays off of stuff in all but the most aggressive cornering. You should have no problem. The rear is a different story. I first tried a 255/60-15. No go, as it was up against the spring with the cop car wheels I'm using. (On the front, the fender sat on the tire with the 255/60). When the 255 didn't work out, I opted not to go by trial and error. I called Stockton Wheel and asked what was the largest tire I could get under Demon fenders on a 15x7 wheel with stock offset. The tech replied 235/60-15. So I can't say for sure a 245/60 will work. I can say that the 235/60-15 comes close to the spring, but there is not enough deflection that it rubs. |
