Hey, I bought a cheapy 1bbl stock manifold that had been adapted to take a 350 2bbl holley, looked alright and was cheap. the adapter plate however isn't level with respect to the manifold, so if I bolt the carb in, one side of the carb sits lower than the other side. It is however a perfect seal etc no vac leaks. Would this be a problem? my fix would be to get a spacer like a 1" spacer install it on the manifold and then have it leveled, does that seem correct? Thankyou! |

There should be a slight amount of angle involved as you may notice your engine doesn't sit flat in the vehicle. The front of the engine sits higher by just a touch, so the Carb base should angle the firewall side of the Carb up slightly to make it more even with the ground. Its possible that whoever made the manifold failed to realize this and its simply a manufacturing defect, but take a closer look and see if the firewall end of the Carb is sitting up higher, and if it is, by how much? A picture from the side would be great. ~RDE~ |

I'll get a picture as soon as I can ![]() But why should it be slightly higher on one side? I would think you would want it to be in line with the engine and not the ground as the fuel will enter into a vac environment? The reason it concerns me slightly is that I could see fuel/air mix hiting the side of the manifold.... :/ I believe you, I'd just like to know why ![]() I will post a picture when I get a chance. The engine doesn't sit perfectly horizontal to the ground in the car, so they angle the Carb on the manifold to make up for the angle of the engine. Why? Because if the Carb is sitting at an angle there will be more fuel on one side of the bowl than the other, and the fuel level needs to be kept as consistent as possible to ensure proper operation. ~RDE~ |
