I'm not quite there yet but getting close to firing up my 2 barrel. Originally intended for a 318, I understand there may/may not be an issue with idle due to the holes in the throttle valves. What's the best/safest way to block these holes for test/permanent? Thanks. |

Use throttle blades without the holes. |

If you are referring to a drill hole in your throttle plate, they can be easily plugged with solder. Soldered hole will stay put, is not effected by fuel, and can be easily re-drilled if needed. Engines with big cams often can’t have their idle tuned by idle mixture screw adjustment due to increased overlap causing low vacuum. One way to get idle mixture screws to do their job is to introduce more air by making a controlled vacuum leak in the throttle plates. This is a trial & error event where one starts small and progresses to larger holes until correct air fuel mixture can be made. I had to drill the primary plates in my Holley 390 4V, as idle mixture was too rich, and because of low vacuum readings at idle. Start with drill holes plugged, see if you can get good idle adjustment before making modifications to the throttle plates. |

I'd try it as is first,since your car doesn't have a PCV system-bleeding air itself. You might be OK. |

I have a 318 2-bbl on my 170 and I don't have any problems. The carb was one of the best mods I made. I noticed it the most after I installed it |

His car, if it was originally sold in California, would have been factory-equipped with PCV.
