OK- time to revaluate the wheels and tires on my brother's 74 Duster project. The 15x8.5 and 15x10 slotted mag wheels are too wide and have the wrong offset to work with the 74 Duster rear wheel wells and the 67 Dart front fenders on the car. The wheels (and the tires on them) are up for sale, but preferably for trade to a wheel the right size. Here are my questions: (1) My brother would like to run a 15x7 slotted mag wheel on all four corners with matching offset on all four corners. Again, the rear wheel wells are for a 74 Duster, but the front fenders are 67 Dart fenders. What offset will I need to run 15x7 wheels on the front? (2) What size tires will I need to get to clear the front fenders? The rear fenders won't be a problem since it is a Duster, but the Dart fenders are fairly restrictive on 15x7 wheel tire sizes. Thanks in advance, I always know I can get a straight answer quickly on this site. P.S.-P.M. me if you are interested in the old slotted mags and tires. |

Optimal offset would be around 4.5-5", but you will not likely find that unless you use a late model wheel. 4.25" is old Mopar standard offset for 7" wheels. Do not bother with anything less than 4" offset. Assuming you can find 4.25" offset or more. I would run 215/60 or 225/60-15 or 225/50-15s. I have used 225/50s on many A-bodies and they give great handling. 60s will give you a slightly better ride, still excellent handling, and taller tire for better speedo offset. I have not used those personally, but they should work well. Lou |

Thanks Lou! This is exactly the info I was looking for. THis will give me some guidance as I begin my new search for slotted mags in the right dimension and offset. If I can get enough money for the old slotted mags, I might break down and get some new American Racing sprint wheels. |

If you have BBP, and not a lot of $$, I might suggest something like 2000 Mustang V6 rims, 16X7.5. I bought a whole set of 4 takeoffs for $200 shipped... About 5.2" backspace. 225/50-16 or thereabouts tire size. Just a thought. Lou |

Hmmm. Thanks. That is actually an interesting idea as I have converted to BBP and funds are always limited. I will look into that and see if my brother likes the look of those wheels. |

Would a 15x7 rim with 3.5 or 3.25 inch backspacing clear the front fenders on a 67 Dart if I run 225/50s or 225/60s? I guess I should be clear that my definition of "optimal" is cost and clearance. The car will be a daily driver and commuter, not a canyon carver. It doesn't even have a front or rear sway bar on it (yet). If I were building a rally car I would probably go with Lou's advice and get some Mustang rims. However, I am just trying to build a daily driver for my brother with rims that he likes. I checked the backspacing on a set of 15x6 factory Chrysler aluminum rims I have and the backspacing was 3 7/8. |

No. Chrysler 15x7" wheels have 4.25" backspacing.

Thanks Josh, that answers the question. |
