Post subject:  intake manifold clean up

so i need to clean up my 2 bbl intake manifold, i was wondering where the best place to do so would be??? *and if you know any in arizona where i can take it* i dont mind shipping it to someone if i need to, since its going to be at least a month before i can get it all together to install it.

Any true automotive machine shop can clean it-just make sure they do the work there and do not send it out

i have called 5 in my local area and they wont touch anything over the age of 20 years of age... and the one place that does do old car workings say they dont work on mopar...

What do you mean "clean up"? Mill to correct warping? Degrease? Derust?

Have you tried a local collage/tech school with a automotive repair class? They often take in out side work.

If you have an air compressor, go to Home Depot and get the $10 sand blaster and a bag of sand. Alternatively, if the manifold is cast iron, get some muriatic acid and dip the intake manifold into it. It should come out clean and shiny.

If you don't have the tools to do this, try and find a sandblasting business in your area. They should be able to make your manifold nice and shiny in about five minutes.

Most monument companies have someone that sand blasts their head stones. I have had two motorcycle frames blasted at a local monument company. Cost $50 bucks.

For removing paint & grease, oven cleaner works great.

It's hard to believe that someone would refuse to work on the old stuff. All they need is a cleaning tank! There is less risk of damaging the older stuff because it is so strong. I wouldn't be going back to those guys.

Maybe look up a place that does powder coating and ask them if they will just media blast it.

I took mine to a local parts house/machine shop, and they glass-bead blasted it in their cabinet. I then cleaned it with warm soapy water, blew it dry with compressed air, and shot it with Eastwood's SEM degreaser before painting. Came out very nice, and has held up for over two years now:

HUH? wont work on mopar? For doing a vat dip? what are they smoking? Vat dont care what it is.

Simple Green for the "gunk", wire wheel on an angle grinder or even a corded drill will work....then high temp engine paint. Saves the time and headache of finding a place to do it.
