Post subject:  Wtf is going on with my car?

Well I hopped into my car figuring I would get to work on time..

Nope...

My car just keeps turning over and over as if I disconnected the ignition coil. There's no "catching" (as if the engine wants to start.) no matter if I hold my foot to the floor, pump, or hold it 3/4 or 1/4 of the way down.

So what could be going on with it? I was thinking it's the ignition coil..What do you guys think? I know you guys are probably going to ask if its getting spark or not....I'm at work until 4PM Pacific Time so I won't know until I get home. I wasn't going to make myself late on behalf of this car.

P.S. - I love how it made a 500 mile round trip from Vegas to L.A. and back without any problems...But a simple 10 mile drive to work is just too much for it...lol

Step one is not guessing at what part(s) might not be working. Step one is diagnosis. Are you getting spark? Is it at the right time? Are you getting fuel? Without this basic information it is not possible to help you.

Very true Dan.

Well the engine did reek of gas when I opened the hood...I hope I didn't flood the carb.

When I come home tonight I will check those things...I'm also contemplating getting a can of starting fluid...

Check the spark first. You can waste a LOT of time guessing.

I just had this problem, ran it for 10 minutes around town and then shut my car off so I could wait for my sister to be done at school so I could pick her up and if it's cold it will start right up but I had to crank it for a minute while manipulating the gas and it finally caught. It does have a slight miss in #3 though

I would say that NOW ya have a gas fouled #3 plug, but would really check the wire and cap, to make sure its just the plug. Sounds like it may have 'heat soaked' (causing vapor lock)if it wasnt shut off for more than 5-10 minutes.

BUT back to OP's first post, sounds like ignition (spark) related...

So I was walking past my car while walking up to my house and I thought to myself "Watch, the car is going to start right up."

...Sure enough she did..Didn't even have to pump the pedal or anything...I left her running for about 10 minutes and I'm going to try to drive her to Wal-Mart and back and see if she'll strand me in the parking lot.

Any idea why the hell she would just do that to me?

P.S. - At least the car crapped out on me during the most convienent time...My wife had nothing going on and the car was sitting right in front of my house as opposed to 400 miles away from home..

I'm really thinking I flooded the carburetor.

After a re-read of this, I would say that MAYBE you got a touch impatient and did flood it.. My .02 cents

The ballist resister will do that

I live on the coast of SC. We have a VERY bad problem of corrosion on the pos and Neg cables, as well as the ground cables. Heat is a resistor. A cold wire will allow electricity flow easily, a hot wire with corrosion after driven will inheritly slow or cut off the flow of electricity. I see it literally once a month here. I can almost always help a stranted person. I'm sure you have electronic ignition, but if not clean the points and adjust.

No, it won't.

Put a penny on the battery to help fight corrosion. The penny will corrode before the wires.

"A penny for your rot..."
Me, I have a can of "black goo" that you brush onto the terminals, that keep them from corroding.
