I recently upgraded to a 2 barrel Stromberg NOS. I installed it without rebuilding it so I could get it to the exhaust shop. Ran pretty darn good though it had a hesitation on acceleration. Once the plumbing was done I went through it with a Daytona Parts Kit. The settings/adjustments that came with the kit were "car" specific, not "carb" specific. Since the Stromberg was never OEM on my Valiant I had to make an uneducated guess. I chose settings for a Dodge 6 cylinder which I believe were late 50's models. The adjustments/settings were common to a lot of other vehicles referenced in the instructions. Runs great!! No more hesitation. I attribute that to the pump arms new location as I used the old accelerator pump. (That's another story) Only issue I have is I've noticed a stumble while accelerating out of turns. Not always, but it has happened a few times. Could this be float level? I believe some of the referenced settings gave more volume in the bowl. Wondering if I should fill it up a bit more. Does the stumble occur in right and left turns or only in one direction? Where is the float pivot, center or one side or the other? Look for no carburetor related items such as and ignition wire or cable that touched something when cornering forces are present and grounds out. I'd try a slightly higher float setting, some carbs are more sensitive than others. Back in my hobby/stock dirt tracking days our class was required to run a Holley 1850 which has side hung floats. We ended up mounting the carb backwards on the intake to overcome fuel level issues. |

Carb you got was for 1966-'67 273 or 318 passenger car application — use those settings. Still not confident on this end in your accelerator pump condition from your description of installation. |
