If the engine is in the car it takes some time but it's pretty easy (it makes life even easier if you get the radiator out).

You do need a puller of some form to get the harmonic balancer off.
(do NOT use a claw puller of some form it will damage to balancer, there are 3 threaded holes in the balancer for this), even the hole in the crank is threaded if you get the dirt out so if you can find a puller that fits there it's even easy to get the balancer back on again.

Otherwise it's just to get the timing cover off, unbolt the gears and put the new ones in, there are marks so there is not much you can do wrong (align them before you remove the old gears).

Replace the crank seal and the timing cover seal at the same time and take care when putting it back so you get a good seal between the timing cover and oil pan.

What is the correct size a and pitch of bolt that will fit into the crankshaft when changing the timing chain. 1982 slant six in a truck.

What about the bolt that holds the pulley on? That's what I used to turn the engine over.

See this thread: dampener bolt.

The same bolt is used as stock (permanently attached) on the V8's. No bolt is required on the SL6, but is a real help when installing a harmonic balancer.

Olaf.
