We noticed when we cranked the '67 Dart the other night and ran it that when it was idling the needle was showing that the new battery was charging, but it was moving back and forth about 3/8" or so and not sitting still. Is that normal, or is there anything we should be concerned with?

Charging system will need some attention starting with a new voltage regulator (Standard VR-128 or Echlin VR-1001 -- these look different than the original, but fit and hook up easily and work better), and a 12ga ground wire connected from the alternator housing to the regulator base and from the regulator base to the battery negative terminal. This should be part of a larger effort to go through all the wiring connections, clean them and apply a contact enhancer (I like Stabilant-22a).

I'm having similar problem with our Valiant, amp gauge fluctuating, but I dont think we have the original alternator , there is a Bosch with number J-K1- 14V 40A 22 stamped on it , so befoer I replace the regulator would it be compatible with this alternator? RAY
