ok im new to the whole electronic ignition thing and was wondering where i can find one and how much do they run. and what will they do to help me. also thinkin about how a bigger air cleaner would work for my car. really want to get better gas mileage and on top of that still have some performance when needed. |

You don't need a bigger air cleaner -- see here for why the air cleaner is not a restriction. If you're trying for mileage, the first thing is to pay very careful attention to the engine's state of tune. Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. The engine will need periodic valve adjustment. If you'd like to put in electronic ignition—a very good upgrade for driveability and economy if done right—see the article about the HEI upgrade. You may also want to do the Fuel line mod. |

You could buy an "upgrade kit" everything you need to convert your slant 6 to a Electrionic Ignition, (Module + dizzy etc) but it's something around (AUD)$400. Bit overpriced. http://www.pentastarparts.com.au/sunsho ... list&c=407 I have this setup on my car, It works great and was easy to install however it is overpriced and I wished I shopped around more first. It's not as easy to come by slant 6's in junkyards down under. |

I think I bought the distributor for around $60 in really good shape and the guy threw in a voltage regulator. I paid $32 for a new echlin module. Then I went to the junkyard and picked up the coil/bracket/heatsink combo out of a 98 GMC truck (many to choose from even at this small wrecking yard) for $40. I wired in a relay to be safe and used all new wiring so I was in another $20 for all of that maybe. I probably could have gotten it done cheaper, but I ended up with a nice looking, reliable ignition that was easy for even me to put together. |
