The window lift works but it wants to pop out from under the glass... towards the inside leaving the glass hanging or slamming down....how do I subdue this rebellious arm!

Sounds like its bound up, broken, or seriously in need of lubrication. Pull the regulator out and clean it up, see if it is still hard to roll up or down without the window. Its possible that your window is trying to come out of the track.

4 door or 2 door? You say its popping inward towards the panel (you) right? What shape are the inserts on the window in?
