What would be the best way to lift my slant using an engine hoist? Thanks.

I got an engine load leveler from Summit and it works great. It allows you to tilt the engine to any angle and it makes it a piece of cake to pull or install an engine/tranny combo all by yourself. I attached the chains to the two holes in the top of the head, one toward the front and one toward the rear.

I used one of these for the first time a couple of weeks ago when helping a friend pull his 383 V8 out of his 61 Chrysler. As we lifted, we adjusted the engine angle using his air gun. What an easy way to pull an engine in minutes!

i just pulled mine yesterday.

i bought some HD chain. load rated to 1500lbs (just in case i want to do a cummins 6 swap some day :D) and got a 3"x3/8" bolt and nut. i put the bolt through the chain and then the alternator bracket. tightened it down. in the back i couldnt find an appropriate hole. i was thinking, wow! look at those manifold washers. the little things kinda resemble a rectangular washer and spread load against the intake and exhaust manifold. i figured if i removed the washer and put the chain in place and tightened it down it would be great. well it was too tight of a fit. so i evetually gave up and wrapped a length around the farthest back intake runner (cast iron intake ;)) and ran a bolt in between 2 links.

i didnt have a front clip on or a tranny so no need for the engine load leveler. i would defiently recommend one though.

good luck.

Hi,

There are a couple holes in the top of the head that I've used before with good success. I believe they are 3/8-16 UNC.
The complete engine w/o trans balances nicely with a chain bolted on these two holes and the hook towards the front of the loop.
