Post subject:  Holley 1920 Documentation--Online, Books?

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I got a 1965 Plymouth Valiant yesterday and I've been spending hours in the cold cleaning and tuning it up.

The kid who had it before me put a rebuilt Holley 1920 on it. It's burning way too rich; it stalls a lot at start, fast idles and burns a lot of fuel for a slant six. I realize that the 1920 is relatively simple compared to other carbs, but I'd feel safer turning screws on it if I had a little documentation rather than playing the guessing game.

Anyone know of good online documentation or books on the 1920? I probably will have to tune beyond the initial idle fix because he said he turned a lot of screws on it, so having a complete understanding on this model carb would be helpful. Thanks!

Read through the Choke adjustment article:

My guess is that the carb has a mis-adjusted choke or a loose metering block or loose main jet. One other cause could be a mis-adjusted float or leaking needle valve.
