hello, i know that this topic has been dealt with already, but i cannot find it anywhere, so i'll ask it again. are there any outward markings that tell you if a motor is a 198? I know its a tall block, but are there ways to know looking at casting marks or anything like that? greg |

If you stand at the front of the motor. Along the left side(pass side) where the head meets the block near the front there is a small kick-out on the block that has the id stamped in it. 170, 198, 225 along with other numbers. You normally have to scrape 30 years worth of gunk off to see it. If no one has any pictures they can post I will try and take some digital shots this weekend and post them. Tom |
