Can anyone tell me if the oil dipstick and tube lengths are the same on a '79 225 as on a '64? I can't recall which one I have in my newly rebuilt '79 engine, but five quarts of oil with a filter change only come up to the add mark. I'm guessing they are different. The oil pan is a '64. |

The stick and tube are both different between 1979 and 1964. I would drain the oil, put 4 quarts in the pan and mark the dipstick with a new full mark. |

Thanks for the info. If I can't remember where I hid the other tube, I'll cut this one off to the proper length. |

Between '64 and '79 the tube length changed dramatically. Chances are you have a dipstick or tube from an engine other than a 1979 model. |

It gets curiouser and curiouser.... I found the '79 dipstick and tube and they are much longer, so the ones installed are from the '64 engine. So, why does the dipstick register a quart low when it didn't with the other engine??? The pan is the same. The only change is a '79 block and head. Are the dimensions of the block surface where the tube seats different between years? |

I didnt like long one on my 80 d150 so i cut same amount from both tube and stick....did oil change and remarked stick keep on roddin' |
