hi all. im going to be installing my rebuilt 727 torqueflight into my 85 dodge van with the slant 6.ive never put a tranny back in .my biggest question...how do i bleed the tranny lines?? .anything else you think i should know please help.

Bleed the tranny lines? No need. Start the van and idle it in neutral. This will fill the torque converter and the cooler lines. Torque converter bolts go in last. Make sure the torque converter is fully into the pump before attempting to install the trans. You should have to push the torque converter forward to meet the flex plate.

If it is to replace a old transmission, might be best to flush the lines and cooler before installing a rebuilt. You don't want to chance getting old crap into your rebuilt.

kinda lost on filling the torque converter? so i just put it together run it in neutral and everything will fill?? or do i need to fill the converter before puting it in?

I would pour some in the converter before installing it, but not so much that it runs out while installing it in the transmission.

Hi 4x4Jimbo.
Do you have an external oil cooler too? Careful low-pressure bursts of compressed air do the trick, maybe except for the built-in oil cooler in the bottom of the radiator, that one may require that you remove the lines, and tip the radiator on it's side, to let gravity do he job. It won't clean the inside of the lines, if that is what you are after, but it will flush out the old fluid.
I guess that like most of us , you may not have access to compressed air when you need it, here you can view my improvised solution to that problem, and the pressure will be at a safer level as well.

One other solution (less popular with the females in the family) is trying to carry the lines and cooler across a clean floor mat without spilling fluid. Never fails!

Another way is to use a hand operated fluid pump (somethig like you can get at Harbor freight for aprox. $8 ). Just pump a qt of new fluid through the lines and cooler. The cost of a qt of fluid is cheap insurance.
