So my /6 is still put putting around..(Not literally...Figuratively of course.)

I'm out here in Las Vegas where it reached over 130 degrees inside of my car, and yes I'm one of those blessed few who DOESN'T have A/C as my compressor is seized up.

I noticed that after driving this car around in the "oven" that after 25 minutes, the oil warning light appears and flickers on and off when I'm stopped at a red light. I have perfect oil level, my car isn't overheating - the thermometer is right smack dab in between cold and hot, and my transmission fluid is full. Once I accelerate, the light goes away only to reappear at the next stop. Lol why is it doing this?

The other hot weather problem I've noticed is the transmission is quite violent downshifting from 2nd to 1st gear after the car's been driving around for 30 minutes or more in this ridiculous heat. It doesn't have any problems shifting from 1st gear to 3rd, even downshifting from 3rd to 2nd is fine...It's jus that 2nd to 1st gear! (P.S. my car is an auto as well.) The only thing I can think of is that the transmission is too hot?? *Shrugs* Or it's the linkage?

The "OIL" light is to warn of low oil pressure -- it does not see oil temperature, oil level, transmission fluid, or anything else other than oil pressure. Some of the senders are a little more alarmist than others and will tend to trigger the light at the low end of normal oil pressure, especially with hot (thin) oil and slow idle in gear. The proper thing to do would be to put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on the engine and check to make sure you've got adequate oil pressure, but you almost certainly do, so it may not be worth your hassle to mess with a mechanical gauge. I would put a new sender on it (they are eventually prone to mechanical failure which will create an oil leak -- yours may be on its way). It will also be a good idea to service the oil pressure relief valve to make sure it's not stuck partway open and is doing its job, as described in these two threads: thread 1, thread 2.

Also, what type of engine oil are you using?

You mean when you floor the gas to accelerate rapidly? Or when you're slowing down and coming to a stop?

About the OIL light..
Yeah it seems to do it when the car is at low idle after being at high idle driving 50MPH or so..It also goes away when I put the car in neutral and just chill at a light...That's what I've been doing since it's probably telling me there's subpar oil pressure. And yes I have an oil leak that has been a real adventure trying to spot...I'm about 85% certain it's coming from the oil pan gasket...However due to my Chevy Vega of a back and now of course it's a trillion degrees out..I can't just go under the car and see if it's still leaking there. You literally can fry an egg on the pavement even at 730PM.

I'm using...Oh wow I have to think about this...10w 30.

The transmission does that when I'm slowing down to a stop. I RARELY speed in this car. I live by the motto of "It doesn't matter how fast you get to point A to point B. All that matters is how good you look getting there." :twisted: I just chill, listen to classic rock, smoke cigarettes and watch the minnows weave..Haha

It's hilarious..They get about 30 seconds ahead of me total on a 20 minute trip....Is it really worth a speeding ticket or accident? Or a freakin headache trying to weave in and out of cars?

10w30 is fine. You don't mention where your oil leak is (right side, left side, near front, near back of engine...) but when the oil pressure sender diaphragm starts to leak, you get unwarranted oil light illumination and a tough-to-find oil leak. I'm just sayin'.

Your transmission has problems. It's not supposed to be banging into 1st gear as you come to a stop like that. If you're very lucky a simple band adjustment and fluid and filter change will fix it.

Yeah I thought so...It only does it when I've been driving the car for over 30 minutes. It sounds and feels like if you manually downshift the car on the column.
